WHY AN ATEX VACUUM?
The European Union adopted two European directives in regard to health and safety, known as ATEX 2014/34/UE (also ATEX 114) and ATEX 99/92/CE (also ATEX 137 or ATEX 153), concerning the risk of the existence of potentially explosives atmospheres.
• 2014/34/EU for the regulation of those devices to be used in zones where a risk of explosion exists; the directive points at those manufacturers of equipment intended for use in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres and at an obligation to certify these products; Directive 94/9/CE was cancelled and replaced effectively from 20 April 2016;
• 99/92/CE for the workers safety and health in explosive atmospheres; it is applied to those environments where a risk of explosion exists, where installations and certified tooling is used and it is consequently addressed to the users.
HOW A MAXVAC ATEX VACUUM IS MADE
ATEX ZONES CLASSIFICATION
ATEX zones classify the risk of potentially explosive
atmospheres and require ATEX-certified industrial vacuums for safety:
Zone 20 (Z20): Combustible dust continuously present or for extended periods.
Zone 21 (Z21): Combustible dust likely to occur occasionally during normal operation.
Zone 22 (Z22): Combustible dust infrequently present and short-lived.
Zone 0 (Z0): Flammable gas or vapor continuously present or for long periods.
Zone 1 (Z1): Flammable gas or vapor likely to occur during normal operation.
Zone 2 (Z2): Flammable gas or vapor present occasionally and briefly.
EXPLOSION PENTAGON
Just like the fire triangle, that represents the flammability conditions (and of consequent explosion), for liquid and gaseous combustibles, it is common to refer to “the explosion pentagon” when it comes to dusts as well as gases, vapours and mists.The five conditions represented in the pentagon of the explosions, and necessary to create the conditions for an explosion are:
- Presence of combustible dust
- Presence of a combustion agent in the environment
- Presence of an ignition source
- Delimited environment
ATEX industrial vacuums are intrinsically safe to minimise the risk of explosion, according to the specific requirements of each respective zone.
SV1-430-A45R-Z22
A compact, powerful cleaner with a brushless motor and Atex Marking for hazardous environments. It has a 1.5 HP motor, 230 mBar maximum vacuum, 220 m3/h airflow, and a 45-liter bin capacity. The vacuum operates quietly at 72 dB(A) and features a 50mm inlet and M Class antistatic polyester primary filter.
SV1-425-MINI-Z22
A lightweight, compact vacuum designed for hazardous environments. Equipped with a brushless motor, it offers a 1.1 kW power, 230 mBar vacuum, and 220 m3/h airflow. The 45-liter capacity unit operates at 72 dB(A) and utilizes an M Class antistatic polyester filter.

A powerful vacuum for hazardous environments with a 2.2 kW fan motor, up to 1400 m3/h airflow, and a 65/100-liter bin capacity. It features a 100-150mm inlet, operates at 73 dB(A), and uses an M Class antistatic polyester filter with manual shaker or optional reverse jet cleaning.
SV1-825-MBTH-Z22
A high-capacity vacuum for hazardous environments, featuring a 4 kW fan motor, 2700 m3/h max airflow, and a 65-liter bin. It has a 150-200mm inlet and operates at 77 dB(A). Equipped with an M Class antistatic polyester filter, it offers manual shaker or optional reverse jet cleaning. Optional features include stainless steel bin, HEPA 13 filter, and antistatic PTFE filter.
SV1-930-Z22
A versatile vacuum for hazardous environments, utilizing a Venturi Pipe with a required air flow of 2500 Lt/min at 6-8 Bar pressure. It offers a 500 mBar maximum vacuum and 250 m3/h airflow. This 45-liter capacity unit features a 70mm inlet, operates at 73 dB(A), and includes an M Class antistatic polyester filter with manual shaker cleaning. An optional absolute H14 fiberglass filter is available.
SV1-970-Z2/Z22
Designed for hazardous environments and utilizes a Venturi Pipe with a required pressure of 6-8 bars. It offers a 500 mm/H2O maximum vacuum and 480 m3/h airflow. This unit features an 80mm inlet, operates at 70 dB(A), and has a 65/100-liter bin capacity. Equipped with an M Class antistatic polyester filter, it provides manual shaker cleaning with an optional SP filter cleaning and H14 fiberglass media.
SV1-425/825-MBSV-Z22
These vacuums are designed for hazardous environments, utilize side channel blowers with 1.8 kW (2.4 HP) and 3 kW (4 HP) power. They offer maximum vacuums of 230 mBar and 270 mBar, with airflows of 280 m3/h and 350 m3/h.

SUITABLE ACCESSORIES
An accessory, to be used in an atex classified environment, must be able to electrically conduct all electrostatic charges that may arise during the suction process. The resistivity, expressed in 10 Ω, of the materials used in the accessories characterizes their ability to discharge electrostatic energy.
