Friday 5th July is Action Mesothelioma Day.
Action Mesothelioma Day (AMD) is a nationwide event dedicated to raising awareness about asbestos and mesothelioma.
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the mesothelium, a thin membrane that lines the chest wall, abdomen, and testicles.
Exposure to asbestos is responsible for 9 out of 10 mesothelioma cases.
In the UK, over 2,700 people per year are diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Why is Asbestos So Harmful?
Removing and handling asbestos is highly dangerous as it can lead to the dispersal of microscopic particles, which, when inhaled or ingested, can cause mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis.
Strict safety protocols and specialised equipment are crucial to minimise risks and ensure proper containment/disposal.
